Moissanite Earrings: Frequently Asked Questions
Is moissanite a real gemstone?
Yes. Moissanite is silicon carbide, a gemstone first found in a meteor crater in 1893. Natural moissanite is extremely rare, so the stones in our earrings are lab-grown. They're real gemstones with their own hardness, brilliance and fire, not glass or cubic zirconia.
Will moissanite earrings pass a diamond tester?
Most standard thermal diamond testers read moissanite as diamond, because the two conduct heat similarly. Multi-testers that also check electrical conductivity can tell them apart. We always sell our stones as moissanite, never as diamond.
Do moissanite earrings get cloudy or change color?
No. D–E color moissanite won't cloud, fade or change color over time. If your studs look dull, it's usually lotion, oil or soap buildup. A quick clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush restores the sparkle.
What size moissanite stud earrings should I get?
For everyday wear, 1 CTW (5 mm per stone) is a classic choice. Choose 2 CTW (6.5 mm) for a statement look, or 0.5 CTW (4 mm) for second piercings. See the size chart above for all sizes.
Push back or screw back: which earring back is better?
Push backs (friction posts) are quick to put on and take off. Screw backs (threaded posts) lock in place and are the most secure choice for larger studs or for sleeping and sports. Each product page shows which back the style comes with.
