Ordering the wrong post size is the #1 reason earring backs get returned — here’s how to get it right the first time:

• Measure the post: If you have a jeweler’s loupe or digital caliper, measure the post diameter directly. 0.76mm means you need a .030″ (21G) back; 0.91mm means you need a .036″ (19G) back.
• No caliper? Ask your jeweler: Most fine jewelry studs use the standard .030″ (21G) post. Heavier drop earrings or larger gemstone studs more often use the thicker .036″ (19G) post.
• Choose your pad: A Light pad (5.4mm) sits closer to the ear for a low-profile look. A Standard pad (6.1mm on .036″ posts, 6.4mm on .030″ posts) gives extra surface area and stability — a better match for heavier or larger earrings.
